The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) doesn't host a women's conference every year; it's more like every three. This summer, hundreds of female motorcyclists and industry representatives will converge on Carson City, Nevada for the 2012 International Women & Motorcycling Conference.

The conference starts Thursday, July 26 and runs through the weekend. If you can't roll in on two wheels, the Reno airport is just 30 miles away.

This year, 75-year-old motorcycle racing pioneer Mary McGee will be honored as a special guest. She is still racing and winning.

Registration costs between $175 and $275 depending on when you register and if you are an AMA member. There are ample hotel options in the area.

For more information, Google "women and motorcycling" or head to the American Motorcyclist website.

See you in Carson City.

  1. Demo bikes galore!
Where else can you sample dozens of different makes, models and brands all in the same weekend without long lines?

  2. Eat, drink and shop till you drop!
There is plenty of food and tasty refreshments, plus the conference organizers do a great job of rounding up marketplace vendors. I especially love the tee-shirt vendors with those special shirts like "Yes, it's mine and no you can't ride it!"

  3. Do it in the dirt!
Bonnie and Andrea from Coach2Ride will be teaching women the basics of dirt bike riding and other hands-on street bike skill-building classes will be offered.

  4. Be inspired and learn something new!
A lot of work went into developing a terrific variety of seminar topics. There is a good chance you'll leave with new insight, good information and renewed energy.

  5. Relax!
Here's your chance to chill out for four days in an environment that won't demand anything of you. No screaming kids. No deadlines. Take some time to enjoy your time, space and surroundings.

  6. Meet a new friend or a hundred!
This will be my third women's conference and there is no better place to strike up a new friendship with someone from a different part of the country or world.

  7. Improve your riding skills!
For those looking to fine-tune riding techniques, you won't be disappointed. All sorts of topics in this arena for riders of all levels are being offered.

  8. This parade is for you!
Nothing like having the city close down the streets for your parade. It's so much fun. I can't wait to do it again.

  9. Ride in and out!
Gather your riding buddies and take a trip to Carson City on your motorcycle. I've been putting off a long-distance ride for so long, it's not even funny. This trip is going to give me the chance to rack up some serious seat time with some special riding buddies.

  10. Create the possibility to make something special happen!
Whether you're looking to change careers, embark on a new two-wheel adventure or dedicate some time to mentoring future motorcyclists, the positive energy at a conference like this is undeniable.
